“It couldn’t have been easy [processo de mudança de género], but nothing justifies what happened. Anything. No matter how angry or out of control she was, her coldness was very impressive.” The presiding judge reacted in this way, sentencing this Wednesday in the Santarem court, Tania Ferrigno, a transgender woman, to a maximum penalty of 25 years’ imprisonment for the qualified completed murder of her father Carlos Ferrigno; and for the attempted murder of Maria Cristina’s mother, who, after being seriously injured, died of illness three months after the crime, which occurred in October 2022.
Tanya Ferrigno, 42, carried out a brutal attack on her parents, with whom she lived and depended financially, in Zamora Correia after the couple filed a new domestic violence complaint against their daughter.
It was about several episodes of threats and attacks from Tanya against her 77-year-old parents. Cases from previous years had already resulted in convictions: she was still serving the suspended sentence to which she was sentenced. Upon learning of a new complaint to authorities and her parents’ desire to leave the family home, Tanya chased her father, stabbing him nine times with a pocketknife, and also stabbed her bedridden mother seven times.
