Activists from the group Climáximo blocked traffic on Rua da Escola Politécnica in front of the Natural History Museum in Lisbon on Thursday morning. The group demands that institutions “face reality and take action on the climate emergency.”
In the pictures, the group’s activists can be seen sitting on the road with a banner that reads: “They are destroying everything you love.”
Climáximo’s representative on the ground, Leonor Canadas, says that “millions of deaths have been declared due to the climate crisis, and they are to blame. Governments and broadcasters are currently killing thousands of people, throwing away tens of millions of people, burning them alive, drowning them. These deaths were deliberate. This is war. It is our duty to resist and our institutions to tell the truth.”
In its statement, the group calls for honesty among institutions about the state of the climate crisis, saying it is “necessary to tell people the truth so that we can make informed and honest decisions to stop climate destruction.” The group considers it “absolutely essential” to achieve carbon neutrality in Portugal by 2030.
On that same note, the group also invites everyone to attend the next public lecture “and fight back for life and all that they love.”
