A couple with a child fled the war in Ukraine, but continue to live in panic in Israel

The sound of a siren suddenly interrupted the smile of Maya, a nine-month-old baby who was preparing to have dinner with her parents at one of the rare restaurants open in deserted Beersheba. It was not yet six in the evening, and, as is customary in a country accustomed to war, Maya’s parents, 29-year-old Maxim and 26-year-old Maria, picked up the baby and quickly, but without hysterics, deliberately took refuge in a nearby parking lot. open to serve as a “bunker”.

A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip made a noisy line in the sky. This time, as almost always happens, it was intercepted by the Israeli defensive shield. The couple returned to the table, but Maya was no longer smiling.

“We fled the war in Ukraine and already knew that they could scare us here,” admits Maxim. “But never live through this war after what the Hamas animals did to us,” Maria concludes. The couple has little confidence, but they know they wouldn’t trade Israel for Dnepr, a Ukrainian city near the Donbass with a strong Jewish community. “We want to move here at any cost. This will be our land,” says Maxim.
