President Chegi announced this Saturday that he will hold a rally in front of the Ministry of Finance against what he called “fiscal robbery” regarding the increase in the unified turnover tax (IUC) on old cars.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of an initiative to fight homelessness in Lisbon, Andre Ventura began by “unequivocally” condemning the green paint attack on the finance minister by a climate activist on Friday, but regretted that Fernando Medina joked that he at least one supporter of the rise of the IUC.
“It is in very bad taste for the minister to joke about the IUC situation and the price increase that will affect so many families, especially the poorest, who cannot afford new cars,” he said.
Realizing that “the government must stop and think,” Chega decided to “promote greater concentration” to try, even before the vote on the state budget, to get the executive to at least reconsider the amount of increases.
“The date has not been set, it will be soon,” he said, indicating that this initiative is being implemented before the vote on the budget as a whole, scheduled for October 31.
Andre Ventura considered this a “cross-party” issue, saying he wanted to raise awareness among people across the political spectrum and even among the PS.
“As far as I know, there is some concern within the Socialist Party about this issue because of the impact on the lower middle class,” he said, hoping the Socialist bench can raise awareness within the government so that there is some reduction in the planned increase.
“This increase is actually a tax robbery,” he said.
This is a measure in OE2024 that changes the taxation rules in terms of IUC for vehicles of category A registered before 2007 and motorcycles (category E), determining that they are no longer taxed solely on the basis of cylinder capacity (as is currently the case). time case), is currently considered as an environmental component.
The increase cannot exceed 25 euros per year.
