Demanding a “just life”, hundreds of protesters took to the streets this Saturday in Lisbon, protesting against the lack of houses, the high cost of living and demanding higher wages.
“Five years ago I was homeless, my rent was overdue, but I was evicted,” said Dalia, one of the protesters who took to the street. “Now I’m renting a room, paying 380 euros for rent, plus 150 euros for a mini-garage where I will store my things until I start a decent life. It’s not sustainable,” the medical examiner lamented.
The protest began in Praça do Rossio and, to the sounds of slogans such as “we are not suckers, less rent, more wages,” reached the doors of the Assembly of the Republic.
“As a citizen, I feel that we have been deprived of our rights, such as access to housing, health care, food, safety and education,” defended Diogo, who lamented that the percentage of people who are unable to pay rent is growing. “Today voices are shouting loudly that cannot be heard,” the young man emphasized.
The protest was organized by the Vida Justa movement, which ensured that the demonstration “lived up to expectations like the one on February 25”, which brought ten thousand people to the streets, say the initiators of the initiative.
