The second change concerns heated tobacco, which is now treated the same as regular tobacco. The sale of flavored products will be banned, packaging will have the same graphics as traditional tobacco packaging, and there will no longer be differences in where it can be used.
The remaining changes to the law will be implemented by 2025: a ban on the sale of tobacco products in cafes, pastry shops and music festivals, as well as a restriction on the installation of vending machines in some places.
The Tobacco Law was approved by Parliament on September 29 to strengthen the fight against smoking.
There were 14 abstentions on the Socialist bench, with two votes against MPs Isabel Moreira and Alexandra Leitan. Chega, the Liberal Initiative and the Esquerda Bloc voted against, while the PSD, PCP, Livre and PAN abstained.
