This Wednesday, the President of the PSD defended a national health pact involving the government, parties and the public, social and private sectors to put an end to the “hypocrisy based on feet of clay”, for which the SNS will be sufficient.
At the end of the audience with the President of the Republic, Luis Montenegro stated that “the health sector needs serious diligence with a strategic and structural dimension.”
“In Portugal, we need a national health pact that involves the government, political parties and all sectors of activity: public, private and social,” he said.
Asked whether he would try to talk to the Prime Minister about the pact, the SDP leader explained that the arrangement he was defending “does not exist between the PS and the SDP” but involves “establishing operating rules” for a three-sector health system .
“This is a divergence that has been created over the years between the PS and the SDP on an ideological whim. This fad and ideology has produced bad results and stands on feet of clay,” he said.
Montenegro said it wanted to condemn the “hypocrisy in Portugal” in the health sector: “Everyone knows that in health centers, hospitals, if it were not for external service providers, workers, the chaos would be much worse.”
“It is already realized that at this level the SNS will never have the doctors it needs,” he insisted.
These hearings on Marcelo Rebel de Sousa were urgently requested by the PSD president on Tuesday, even interrupting the initiative in Vila Real, as he was concerned by the warning of the chief executive of the National Health Service (SNS) about the possibility of a “dramatic November” in the sector.
Without revealing the content of the conversation with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the leader of the Social Democrats said that he had the impression that the President of the Republic understood the arguments he presented.
Montenegro called on the government not to increase Portuguese unrest and to “promote peace and stability among doctors,” accusing the health minister and the SNS chief executive of confusing their roles in recent days.
“We believe that it is possible and desirable to reach an agreement with doctors,” he said.
