This Thursday, the PSD President criticized the European Commission for not pointing out the mistakes of the Portuguese government in the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), arguing that “higher demands” were placed on the executive branch.
“This is a criticism of the Commission. [Europeia] that, from my point of view, was not decisive enough to point out the error in the strategy followed by the Portuguese government, despite the respect that the Commission must show to the governmental strategy of each Member State,” said Luis Montenegro, in statements to journalists at the entrance to a meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Brussels.
The Social Democratic leader said he “has no problem suggesting that the European Commission should speak more demandingly to the Portuguese government.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen belongs to the EPP, the European political family of which the SDP is part.
To date, the Commission has approved all PRR plans presented by the Portuguese government, but Montenegro believes that the socialist executive is the only one of the 27 countries that uses the “bazooka” to “rely almost exclusively on the public sector.” “.
“All of them [os outros governos europeus] focused on giving our economies more strength, more transformational capacity, to increase the competitiveness of our European bloc. […]. The Prime Minister and the PS made the PDP the largest amendment budget in the history of democracy because it finances public investments that have remained in the drawer in recent years,” he accused.
According to the leader of the Social Democrats, the European Commission should “encourage the Portuguese government to ensure that the Portuguese economy has the conditions that allow it to grow.”
