On Saturday, the secretary general of the PKP said that there are still conditions to stop the reprivatization of TAR, which he called an “economic and political crime,” referring to the veto of the president of the republic on a government decree-law.
“We are fully confident that today more people think like us and there are more opportunities to expand this fight, and there are still conditions to stop this ongoing economic and political crime that is the privatization of TAP,” said Paulo Raimundo in his report. Auditorium of the volunteer firefighters of Sacavem in the municipality of Loures, Lisbon district.
The General Secretary of the PKP, speaking at the end of the national meeting of the PKP on civil protection issues, also touched upon the issue of the Unified Turnover Tax (UST), expressing the belief that “the current increase in the IIT will be eliminated, the government will have to abandon this measure.”
In his speech, Paulo Raimundo defended the increase in funds and resources for civil protection and once again criticized the draft state budget for 2024, for which a vote against it had already been announced by communist deputies as a whole.
Regarding TAP, the PKP Secretary General began by saying that “the reasons given yesterday by the President of the Republic for the veto of the government diploma” approved by the Council of Ministers in September “revealed a catastrophic path and an economic crime.” and political – this is the privatization of TAR.”
For the PCP, it is necessary to “ensure that TAP fulfills its public function” and “protect its heritage,” as well as “protect workers’ rights” as part of the “national sovereignty and development project.”
“The only way to fulfill each of these requirements, defined in the fundamental elements justifying the veto of the President of the Republic, the only way to achieve this is to maintain TAP as a public company, in the service of the country and in the service of its development. This is a way to respond to this problem,” said Paulo Raimundo.
The General Secretary of the PKP noted that “PS, SDP, SDS, Chega, Liberal Initiative” are parties that “all stand in the way of the political and economic crime that is the privatization of the TAR.”
“But we didn’t give up TAP, we didn’t give up government services,” he countered.
