Thousands of people demonstrated this Sunday in Madrid following an appeal by the far-right party Vox against the amnesty proposal for Catalan separatists announced on Saturday by current Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
“Spain is not for sale” and “No amnesty”, read the posters of the protesters who gathered this Sunday in the Plaza de Colon and shouted “Send Puigdemont to prison!”, referring to the former president of the Catalan government and the leader of the attempt at self-determination in 2017 year.
On Saturday, Pedro Sánchez, speaking to the central committee of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), defended the approval of the amnesty law in Catalonia, justifying it as a need to strengthen the reunification of Spain and Catalonia.
