Checkmate “Genio” gives an isolated leader

Sporting checkmate Boavista with goals from Genya Catamo and Pote to take the top spot in the league, leaving Benfica and Porto three points behind.
Ruben Amorim made just two of the eleven changes from the team that drew with Rakov in the Europa League. Goalkeeper Adan and right-back Zheni Katamo came out and played an important role in the outcome of the match, but let’s move on to that.

The first half ended in a tense contest, although there were few scoring opportunities. Pote (6′) forced Joao Goncalves to defend tightly with a free kick, and two minutes later Zheni Katamo fired a bomb into the side goal.

Gradually the players got stronger, and Bozenik (17′) was even close to the goal, but his shot went wide of the goal. The move woke up the Sporting team, but not Pote, who, after being isolated by Edwards, missed an easy shot to the checkered goalkeeper.

The bookings were given and it was Geni Katamo who opened the scoring after Matheus Reis’ cross found the Mozambican at the far post.

Sporting’s extravagance continued in the second half. Edwards, isolated, allowed Chidozie to clip in and Giokeres, very weak this Monday, fired a weak shot that went wide of the goal.

Boavista showed a sign of life with a goal from Bozenik, which was eventually disallowed due to a 27cm offside. A move that highlighted concerns in defense while Coates had already left and Diomande was in the middle. Luis Santos also tested Adan’s attention. But whoever has Pote has talent and class. In a pair of near-scandalous miscues, the winger backheeled to make it 2-0 after Esgayo’s assist. Before that, he even shot at the bar. A fair triumph.

AND

“it’s instinct”
“Anyone who plays football knows it’s instinct. We have a second or two to think. Luckily everything went well.” Here’s how Pote explained the goal with a heel touch. “We want to keep winning to achieve our goals. We are happy, but we want much more,” he said.

Petit: “Tense game”
It was a tight game, well played. We could score goals, we tried. This is not the result we wanted, but we must continue,” said Petit (Boavista).

Support
Sporting fans supported Bas Dost with a song dedicated to him when he played at Alvalade, in the 28th minute (the Dutchman’s jersey number at Alvalade). A player comes to his senses after losing consciousness on the field.
