Urgent orthopedic patients from Feira are referred to Hospital de Gaia

The Hospital Center Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho (CHVNG/E) is receiving emergency orthopedic patients from Santa Maria da Feira, a source at the hospital unit said on Thursday.

“After 21:00 they were notified that urgent orthopedic patients would be sent to Gaya from 21:00,” a CHVNG/E source told Lusa.

According to the same source, CHVNG/E had already received a patient from Santa Maria da Feira last night.

The referral comes two days after the Centre Hospital Entre Douro e Vouga (CHEDV), which includes the Santa Maria da Feira Hospital, said that a document circulating in the department announced the closure of the orthopedic emergency department at night is false. In November.

In a statement Monday, the CHEDV administration did not deny the possibility of restrictions, but assured that information about the closure of orthopedic emergency care is false.

“We have become aware that a message has been circulating overnight throughout November regarding the proposed closure of the Emergency Orthopedic and Trauma Service. We inform you that the above-mentioned document is false, therefore its contents do not reflect any decision taken by this institution,” the statement said.

The hospital added that “CHEDV is making every effort to expand the medical registries of its emergency services.”

The clarification came four hours after Lusa announced that the emergency department of orthopedics and traumatology at the San Sebastian hospital in Santa Maria da Feira would close.

The administration said the document was just a draft that an unknown doctor at the hospital filled out, printed and distributed.

This division serves approximately 350,000 users in the northern part of the Aveiro region and the southern part of the Porto metropolitan region.

According to the circulated document, air conditioning will be carried out from 20:00 to 8:00 am and will be subject to “human resource limitations.”
