Monte Cara will perform on the B.Leza stage on New Year’s Eve. It will be the start of 2023 with more Cape Verdean rhythm and music.
The Re:Imaginar Monte Cara project is led by Alcides Nascimento, son of Bana, “King of Morna”.
In 1976, Bana opened a restaurant in Lisbon, on Rua do Sol ao Rato, Monte Cara, named after the symbol of the city of Mindelo. It has been a meeting place in Lisbon’s nightlife for many African and Portuguese musicians.
It ended up becoming a great school of musicians, Luis Morais and Paulino Vieira were great masters in a house where artists such as Tito Paris, Armando Tito, Toy Vieira, Leonel Almeida, Selina Pereira, Cesaria Evora, Rui Veloso, Dani Silva, among many other.
Alcides joined some of the musicians in residence at the old restaurant and created a touring project with the Re:Imaginar Monte Cara EP featuring Dino d’Santiago, Leonel Almeida, Dani Silva, Tito Paris and Rui. Veloso.
On New Year’s Eve, the group created by Toy Vieira, Manuel Paris, Ze Antonio and Toy Paris will also feature Cau Paris and the voice of Dainira Verissimo. The beginning of 2023, when there will be no shortage of dance music.
