Three bodies washed ashore on Formosa beach in Santa Cruz (Torres Vedras) this Friday morning after the sinking of a Danish-flagged sailboat that left the port of Peniche at 7 am with three crew members on board.
The victims – two men and a woman, apparently foreigners, were thrown ashore without vests.
At the time the alarm was announced, at 11 a.m., strong seas were observed in the area, waves reaching six meters.
The deaths have already been confirmed by INEM. The existence of five victims was acknowledged, but there was talk of duplication of warnings by members of the public.
The sailboat, which sank about a thousand meters from the beach, washed ashore in Praia Azul, south of Santa Cruz, and will be evacuated by Civil Protection as soon as conditions allow.
An Air Force helicopter, the Vigilante boat from the Salva Vidas station in Peniche, marine police and firefighters from Torres Vedras were at the scene.
