The city council of Sines, Setúbal, is conducting an investigation on Tuesday by police officers who are inside the building while officers are outside, a source in the municipality said.
“Authorities are conducting investigations inside the council building while all staff are outside,” he said.
According to the same source contacted by Lusa, the place is “awaiting the arrival of the prosecutor’s office” to participate in the same procedures. On Tuesday, Lusa contacted the mayor of Sines, Nuno Mascarenhas (PS), but the mayor’s mobile phone was switched off.
According to Jornal Público, “this morning the PSP is carrying out searches in several ministries and in the official residence of the Prime Minister in the Palácio de São Bento.”
Público has learned that Antonio Costa’s chief of staff, Vitor Escaria, Costa’s close adviser Diogo Lacerda Machado and the mayor of Sines, as well as two company executives, have already been arrested.
According to the same newspaper, “the operation is related to the investigation of the lithium business in Montalegre” and will also include “a criminal investigation related to the green hydrogen mega-project in Sines.”
