According to SIC Notícias this Wednesday, during searches carried out on Tuesday by the Ministry of State (MP) investigating the lithium and hydrogen business, 75,800 euros in cash were seized from the office of the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, Víctor Escaria. According to the same source, the deputy’s operation, which led to the resignation of António Costa, was called “Influential Man”. The money was reportedly seized from Escaria’s office in the Sao Bento Palace.
The Prime Minister then submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic after an MP announced that he was the subject of an independent Supreme Court investigation into the lithium and hydrogen projects. Searches were carried out at government offices, including the official residence of São Bento, targeting Vitor Escaria, who was detained for questioning.
In a conversation with reporters, the lawyer for the head of the administration, Costa, said that he would not comment on the case or give any explanations during the process.
“I will not give any explanation on this matter here. I can tell you that Dr. Vitor Escaria is calm and confident,” the lawyer said.
