The Council of State concluded this Thursday with a vote on the options under consideration. Dissolution and formation of a new PS government without elections were two hypotheses. The vote was 8-8.
Two councilors who had been preparing to join via video call from overseas were unable to take part in the meeting or vote because the system broke down at the last minute.
These are António Damasio, a Portuguese scientist living in the United States, Marcelo’s personal choice, and Miguel Albuquerque, president of the regional government of Madeira.
Both would likely have voted to disband, resulting in this hypothesis winning 10–8, but a technical glitch put them out of the game, resulting in a tie.
Following the meeting, the head of state informed the council members that he would call early elections.
