Centeno’s ethics analyzed by Banco de Portugal

The Ethics Committee of the Bank of Portugal met this Monday to evaluate the conduct of the Governor of the Bank of Portugal during the political crisis. Rui Vilar, Adelaide Cavaleiro and Rui Martinho reviewed Article 17 – “Duties of Loyalty and Impartiality”, which is enshrined in the rules of conduct of the Bank of Portugal.

We are talking about the possibility that Mario Centeno could be involved in a “conflict of interest” as governor when considering Marcelo e Costa’s proposal to lead the government.

This Monday, Marcelo denied in a statement that “he allowed anyone to contact anyone for this purpose (while heading the new government). This reaction arose after a report by the Financial Times, where Centeno himself said that he had received an invitation from the president and prime minister to think about the possibility of leading the government.” Centeno denied the news this Monday.
