On Tuesday, the PSD president expressed concern about trust in Portugal’s judicial and political institutions, refusing to “further fuel the discredit and mistrust” that has grown among the people.
“I’m not going to get involved directly in this, but that doesn’t mean I’m not very concerned about trust in institutions, political or judicial,” Luis Montenegro said in Portimão, Faro district.
The leader of the Social Democrats spoke to reporters upon his arrival at the Portimão train station, after traveling by train between Tunes, in the municipality of Silves, and Portimão, as part of the Sentir Portugal initiative.
Luos Montenegro declined to comment on the enforcement measures and the trial involving the prime minister’s chief of staff, which “further reinforce the discredit and mistrust that have grown towards institutions of a very different nature.”
“There is a process going on now and we need to wait for the authorities to do their job,” he said.
