Chega presents “more than 400 proposals” for changes to the budget as a “skeleton” for fixing

Chega will present “more than 400 proposals” for changes to next year’s state budget, the leader said on Tuesday, indicating that this is the “skeleton” of a possible amendment budget presented by the party.

Speaking to reporters at the Assembly of the Republic, Andre Ventura said it was a “correction of errors and shortcomings” in the document presented by the government, but it also represented a “skeleton of what the corrective budget would be” that the party would undertake to present if it became government after early legislative elections on March 10.

“If the right gets a majority, then the proposals we present will be the basis of Chegi’s budget reform and the adjustment that will need to be made,” he said.

According to published opinion polls, Andre Ventura noted, “not a single budget will pass to the right without Chega,” so “there must be a commitment from parliament.”

Ventura said the “two highest priority areas are justice and health care, which account for about 18% and 17% of all proposals.”

Regarding the fight against corruption, Chega wants a “very significant allocation of resources”, which includes hiring more judges and judicial officers, with an increase of “about 30% of the total budget” allocated to this area, according to what the leader explained to reporters Chegi.

Ventura also stressed that “never, under any circumstances, will there be any understanding and rapprochement that does not involve a final solution to the problems of teachers and health workers.”

As for teachers, the far-right party proposes to “recover the missing service time” over four years at a rate of “40% in the first year” and divide the remainder over three years.

To solve the “biggest crisis of this time” in the housing sector, Chega will propose “IMI exemption for own and permanent housing worth up to €350,000” and “IMT exemption for own housing for young people up to 35 years of age.” years”.

On a financial level, Ventura said Chega would propose eliminating the increase in the unified turnover tax (IUC) and reducing “VAT on diesel and gasoline to a rate of 13%.”

The party will also propose an emergency tax on bank profits of 40%, arguing that “the state should use these taxes to reduce family housing loans.”

Ventura wants to present to the Portuguese “a new right that has social measures” and it is “not a right of cuts, it is a social right that is friendly to public administration, to investments, to pensioners, a right that wants to socially change the country.” “and it is “modern, futuristic and humanistic.”

When asked if he believed that the PS would be open to approving any of Chegi’s measures, given that last year it was the only party to have all its proposals rejected, the MP expected that “it will be the same,” but noted, that “it will be the same there.” there was room for a final rapprochement.”

The final global vote on the State Budget is scheduled for November 29, following the conclusion of debate and voting on proposals to change the specialty.

The President of the Republic has called early elections for March 10 after the resignation of the government, which will only be formalized in December, so that the budget can still be approved.
