Montenegro understands that Costa will take over the infrastructure portfolio

Luis Montenegro, speaking to journalists this Wednesday, made it clear that António Costa took over the management of the infrastructure after the dismissal of João Galamba after Operation Influencer.

“It seems clear to me that the prime minister can manage this area of activity together with other members of the government,” said the SDP leader.

Regarding the controversy surrounding Mario Centeno, Montenegro believes that “it is not good for the governor of the Bank of Portugal to voluntarily interfere in political matters.”

The SDP leader also called the privatization of TAP “the best strategy for the airline’s development” and said that if he wins the next elections, scheduled for March 10, a decision will be made on the location of the new airport.

Let us recall that the Belém Palace today published a note with the title “The Prime Minister assumes the role of Minister of Infrastructure and the President of the Republic accepts the appointment of Undersecretary of State and Infrastructure.”

In this statement, the President of the Republic announced that he had accepted the proposal for the reappointment of Frederico Francisco, who will become Under-Secretary of State for Infrastructure under Prime Minister António Costa.

“In accordance with paragraph 2 of Article 7 of Decree-Law No. 32/2022 of May 9, with the dismissal of the Minister of Infrastructure, his functions were assumed by the Prime Minister. The President of the Republic has therefore accepted the proposal to reappoint Frederico André Branco dos Reis Francisco, the previous Secretary of State for Infrastructure, as the new Under-Secretary of State for Infrastructure, subject to the Prime Minister,” reads a note from the Palacio de Belém.

On Monday, the President of the Republic immediately dismissed the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, and the Secretary of State for the Economy, Pedro Silinio, who had been proposed to him by the Prime Minister.

João Galamba, an indictment under Operation Man of Influence, resigned from his post as infrastructure minister early on Monday morning, which he justified as the need to ensure peace and privacy for his family, which was accepted by the authorities. Prime Minister.

The former infrastructure minister was accused of Operation Influential, linked to the lithium and hydrogen exploration business and the creation of the Sines data centre.

In Portugal, on March 10, 2024, early elections will be held for legislative bodies appointed by the President of the Republic after the resignation of the Prime Minister.
