There have been no new cases of Legionella since Wednesday.

The Alto Minho Public Health Department reported that from Wednesday until 12:00 this Thursday, no new cases of Legionella were detected in Caminha, and six hospitalized patients were in a stable clinical condition.

This Thursday, the Alto Minho Public Health Department increased the total number of cases identified in the municipality of Caminha, Viana do Castelo district, to seven.

An 86-year-old man who is bedridden is considered the eighth case but has not yet contracted the disease, according to the Alto Miño public health department.

The man, who was treated at the São João hospital in Porto, did not “meet all the criteria” for the disease.

The woman was released from the hospital on Tuesday, according to Alto Minho Public Health.

Alto Minho’s public health department said there were still six patients in the Santa Luzia hospital in Viana do Castelo and that their condition was “stable” and only one “remains in the emergency department awaiting a hospital bed.” .

“The woman admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) is doing well.”

Authorities are continuing to investigate the origin of the infection.

The Alto Minho public health department added that “collections carried out at seven points” in Vila Praia de Ancora, in the municipality of Caminha, “were sent to the Ricardo Jorge Institute.”

A harvest is being carried out this Thursday “in other parts” of the municipality to determine the source of the pollution.

The Regional Health Directorate of the North also reported today that in the municipality of Caminha a “cluster” has been identified with seven confirmed cases to date, and this “cluster” is at the stage of epidemiological investigation and identification of the preventative health measures necessary to control it.

Also according to ARS, an elderly man died in a residential care home for the elderly (ERPI) in Matosinhos, Porto district, as a victim of legionella.

Without specifying when the death occurred or the gender or age of the victim, ARS Norte said that in addition to this elderly person, there was another case at the house, which it did not identify.
