Stepmother forces stepson to eat fried lizards, and minor is in serious condition

An 11-year-old boy was admitted in serious condition to a hospital in the Brazilian city of Formosa in Brazil’s neighboring state of Goias after his stepmother and mother forced him to eat some fried geckos. Now the boy is at home, continuing treatment, but for several days doctors had to fight hard to prevent his death due to a serious infection that he acquired after eating reptiles that carry very dangerous bacteria.

Junior, the son of separated parents, went to spend the weekend at his father’s house, and his stepmother served him lizards after the man left for work. According to the child, after avoiding a serious health problem, he felt very disgusted when he saw the geckos on his plate and tried to stop eating them, but his stepmother and mother forced him to eat them.

A detail that seems to indicate that the two women’s gesture was deliberate: before serving the unusual food, they also forced the boy to catch lizards in the forest around the house, but without telling him that he would have to eat them. Brought to the police station after a complaint from the boy’s mother, the stepmother and her mother claimed that they did not know that geckos could harm the child since they had already eaten them when they were small and nothing happened to them, but the police are suspicious this story.

Shortly after forcibly ingesting the geckos, the boy began to feel unwell, with black urine and vomiting, but his stepmother only took him to hospital when her stepson’s condition worsened over the weekend and she feared he would die at home. According to the doctors who treated the boy, he suffered from a serious infection caused by ingestion of the reptile, which could have even killed the child due to salmonella and other bacteria present in this type of animal if he had not been treated in time.
