Minister of Education elected President of the OECD Education Policy Committee

Education Minister João Costa was unanimously elected Chairman of the Education Policy Committee at the 34th meeting of the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) this Thursday, according to a statement on the website of the Portuguese Republic.
The OECD Committee is made up of the Organization’s 38 member states and is responsible for coordinating all OECD activities in the field of education, enhancing cooperation between countries and facilitating the formulation of public policies.
João Costa will therefore be the first Portuguese chosen for the role, replacing American Maureen McLaughlin.
The mandate will begin on January 1, 2024 and end on December 31, 2026 and will last for three years.

The 34th meeting of the OECD also elected the committee’s board of directors, which will include representatives from Ireland, Slovenia, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Australia, and Australian Alex Gordon was elected vice-president.
