Livre calls on the government to send unemployment benefits to Belem for victims of domestic violence

On Thursday, Livre’s only deputy called on the government to publish a diploma establishing the provision of unemployment benefits to victims of domestic violence before it is limited to administrative acts.

“From here we all tell the Government that we know that he is provisionally dismissed, that in a few days he will assume a leadership position, that it will be a shame, that it will be a scandal if this decree … the law does not come out of the final version, it does not make it on the table in the Belém Palace and is not proclaimed President of the Republic, because we cannot fail those who want to break the vicious circle of violence and need the autonomy and financial independence to do this,” said Rui Tavares at the 10th anniversary of the party in Lisbon.

The measure received the green light in the 2022 state budget, in which Livret abstained, and was approved by the Council of Ministers on October 19.

In a room filled with a festive and pre-election atmosphere, Rui Tavares suggested that the country was going through “a moment in which there is great uncertainty and fear” and set the goal of early legislative elections on March 10 to “help what remains to grow.”

A single MP warned the Socialist parliamentary majority that it “could still approve” several of Livre’s proposals before the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic, such as the creation of a state hydrogen agency, believing that “the energy transition cannot be realized.” conduct only private auctions” and must be “transparent”.

But the co-speaker went even further and put forward some demands for the period after the adoption of the law in 2024.

“You can be sure that if Livre achieves his goals in these elections, which must grow, help the left win, that is, remove extremist governments that will threaten the rule of law and fundamental rights in our country, Hidrogenio de Portugal [agência pública] will be on the table. But recognition of Palestinian independence will also be discussed,” he said.

Regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas, Rui Tavares stressed that “a violation of human rights is a violation of human rights, no matter where it comes from” and that the party will always condemn it, adding: “They cannot tell us that the way is the solution two states, but then recognizes only one.”

Rui Tavares also said the party would not “fight the fear of the far right with the left’s version of fear.”

“What we are going to present is the idea of ​​a desired country, and we are going to give examples, objects of political desire, what specific steps should be taken now to win that desired country,” he said.

In a half-hour speech, Tavares recalled the founding of the party in 2013 and the “anxiety” he felt at that moment, holding a version of José Gomes’ book “The Adventures of Joao Sem Medo” in his coat pocket. Ferreira.

The leader highlighted the main and distinctive flags of the Livre, such as ecology and the defense of Europeanism, in a party he called “idealistic but down to earth.”

Ahead of next year’s legislative election campaign, Rui Tavares vowed to “travel the whole country and listen to the people.”

“These are not Excel spreadsheets of technocrats – of course, the reports must be correct – but this is a vision of a better world and concrete steps to achieve it,” he concluded.
