PSD President Luis Montenegro guaranteed this Monday in Porto that he will not “do a trick” for the PS to “comment every day” on what happens in this party and that he is “focused on the future” of the country.
“Frankly, I do not intend to burden the Socialist Party with daily comments on what is being said about the Socialist Party from both sides. I am focused on the future of the country, on the people, on who these are desires that Portuguese citizens, disappointed with their vote in the last legislative elections, want to see resolved,” said Luis Montenegro at the end of a meeting at the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs.
Faced with an accusation by Prime Minister António Costa against the President of the Republic that he lacked the common sense to avoid a political crisis, the PSD leader refused to comment: “What deserves me to comment is that Portugal must create more wealth, there must be more citizens.” . “Friendly taxation, there should be less suffocation for companies so that they can invest,” he replied.
Luis Montenegro decided to touch on Portugal’s position in the European Union, given that the country “should not always be at the tail end” of Europe.
“Why should Portugal always be at the back, why are we not able to be at the forefront, why are we not able to set ourselves the goal that Portugal ceases to be a beneficiary of funds and becomes a donor to Europe,” he asked.
According to the leader of the Social Democrats, “this is what people want from a party that wants to govern the country.”
“This is what I want to offer to the Portuguese, with all due respect to other issues,” he stressed.
Asked about other problems of the current political crisis, which led to the fall of the socialist government with an absolute majority, Montenegro decided to highlight some of the goals of the PSD in the field of economics.
“To be honest, today I am focused on saying that it is necessary to lower the IRS for the middle class, it is necessary to stimulate productivity by exempting contributions and taxes from the income margin that is linked to productivity bonuses and availability for additional work, it is important that young Portuguese knew that by age 35 they would be paying a third to the IRS than usual and that they could project their lives on a 10, 15. 20 year scale,” he noted.
