The Public Ministry (MP) on Tuesday confirmed the opening of an investigation into the complaint that the city council of Vila Nova de Gaia and its president Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez filed against the former Social Democratic leader of that municipality, Luis Filipe Menezes.

The presentation of the criminal case for offenses and defamation to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Actions (DIAP) of Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto district, was approved on Monday, with the abstention of the PSD, at a public meeting. meeting of the city executive power.
The complaint is based on the fact that the former leader of the SDP, in a post on the social network Facebook, accused the current mayor, elected by the PS, of interfering in the land licensing process.
At the beginning of October, in this publication, Luis Filipe Menezes also accused Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez of being the “mastermind” of “criminal somersaults”, such as changing technical conclusions, with the aim of harming him, and announced that he had referred the case to the authorities.
The ministry subsequently confirmed that it had opened an investigation into a complaint that the former president of the Gaia Chamber filed against the current head of the municipality.
In that publication, which is no longer available, Luis Filipe Menezes wrote that in 2011 he bought land to build a house, paying more than 20 thousand euros in public domain concessions before construction, as well as the corresponding licenses.
In a criminal complaint to which Lusa had access, the municipality and its president said that with this publication, Luis Filipe Menezes “accused the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia of discriminating against him in relation to other citizens for allegedly forcing to pay it “transition into the public domain before the start of work, and not the final one.”
“Throughout the post he makes several value judgments about the behavior of the complainants, falsely attributing to them the commission of criminal acts,” he claims.
The criminal complaint states that the former Social Democratic mayor acted with the “true intention of instilling a false impression that both the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia and its president are dishonest and that they are using their legal powers and powers in personal and small purposes.” , to the detriment of respect for the rule of law.”

According to the city council and Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez, Luis Filipe Menezes, by writing this Facebook post, did so with the intention of insulting the authority, prestige and trust of those targeted and causing censorship and public disapproval.
The criminal complaint also states that the Social Democrat’s behavior “seriously” caused harm to those persecuted in this position, so they consider it to be crimes against an organization, service or legal entity, as well as aggravated libel .
