The Ministry of Education guarantees that “no worker will be left without social security”, in response to teachers who complain about the suspension of the social security transfer process to the Caixa Gera de Aposentações.
According to a Diário de Notícias (DN) report published on Wednesday, several teachers say they were left without the right to sick leave or social support after requesting a Social Security (SS) transfer to the Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA ).
“Registration with the CGA is the result of court decisions only. Until the transfer is completed, no worker will be left without protection, since social security discounts remain,” the press service of the Ministry of Education said in response to Luse.
This year, teachers were able to re-register with the CGA and those who went through the transfer process at the beginning of the school year had no problems, but those who did so later had the process suspended, DN reported.
The newspaper reports that school departments cannot make discounts on either system, and according to teachers’ unions, there are “thousands of teachers without social support and protection during illness.”
However, the Ministry of Education guarantees Lusa that “not a single worker will be left without protection.”
Until 2006, teachers paid for CGA, but the government decided to transfer them to SS and this situation forced the teachers to go to court, which found them right and allowed them to return to CGA this academic year.
