Liberal Initiative (IL) President Rui Rocha criticized Pedro Nuno Santos this Saturday for “opening the door to left-wing extremists” and accused the PS leadership candidate of incompetence in managing TAP, housing and the railway.
“Pedro Nuno Santos wants to open the door to left-wing extremists, BE and PCP. Antonio Costa [primeiro-ministro] He placed left-wing extremists on the porch, at the door. Pedro Nuno Santos wants to take them into his home, and this is not his home, but ours, this is the home of the Portuguese government. We don’t want extremists in our house,” Rui Rocha said during a dinner with militants in Porto on the occasion of November 25.
Stating that the prime minister is “not worth talking about” given that his political career is “over,” the IL leader criticized former minister Pedro Nuno Santos.
“The problem with Pedro Nuno Santos is not only the companies, but also their incompetence,” said Rui Rocha, citing as an example the 3.3 billion euros “wasted on TAP” and the 500 thousand euros in compensation “settled by WhatsApp.” and the management of the former Minister of Housing and Railways.
The IL leader also criticized the attributes with which Pedro Nuno Santos presented himself to the Portuguese – “moderate, competent and of humble origin”, saying they were “false”.
To activists, Rui Rocha admitted that the party’s “first mission” in the early legislative elections scheduled for March 10 next year is to “defeat the PS.”
“There is a first condition: IL goes to the elections alone,” he said, arguing that those who are now defending coalitions “are the same people who worry about the electoral system but do not change it.”
Rui Rocha stated, however, that for “success” it is not enough to defeat the socialists, it is necessary to “have a completely different country.”
“We want the Portuguese to be able to choose between fundamental things. The Portuguese money does not belong to Pedro Nuno Santos, it does not belong to Mariana Mortagua. [líder do BE] and this is not Paulo Raimundo [líder do PCP]”, he added.
