According to the PS budget proposal approved this Monday, companies that increase the wages of the “universe of workers” by at least 5% in 2024 can pay their employees in the form of profit sharing and be exempt from the IRS.
“They are exempt from the IRS up to the amount of the fixed monthly remuneration and with a limit of five times the RMMG. [Remuneração Mínima Mensal Garantida]amounts attributable to employees as a share of company profits through balance bonuses paid by organizations, the nominal increase in the fixed remuneration of all employees in 2024 is equal to or greater than 5%,” can be read in the socialists’ proposal.
The measure was expected to strengthen the medium-term agreement to increase revenues signed in October with most social partners, with the exception of the CIP – Confederação Empresarial de Portugal and the CGTP.
