The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has increased from seven to 13 districts that will be under a yellow warning on Thursday due to the forecast of periods of rain, sometimes heavy and prolonged.
The IPMA had previously placed the areas of Évora, Setúbal, Lisbon, Beja, Santarem, Faro and Portalegre under a yellow warning level.
In a new statement, the institute extended a yellow warning to the areas of Viseu, Guarda, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro and Coimbra, also due to rain.
The areas of Évora, Setubal, Lisbon and Beja will be under a warning from 3:00 to 15:00 on Thursday, Santarem, Leiria and Portalegre from 6:00 to 15:00 and Faro from 12:00 to 18:00.
Viseu and Aveiro will be under a yellow warning from 3:00 to 12:00, and Guarda, Leiria and Coimbra from 6:00 to 12:00.
The IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for the areas of Setubal, Santarem, Lisbon and Leiria due to the forecast of strong south-westerly winds with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour from 9am to 12pm on Thursday. .
The north coast, south coast and mountainous areas of Madeira Island will also be under a yellow warning from 6am to 3pm on Thursday due to the forecast for periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.
A yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
