Antonio Costa for two days in Dubai with an agenda dedicated to financing

Prime Minister Antonio Costa will be in Dubai on Friday and Saturday to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), whose agenda is focused on financing climate change mitigation and adaptation, as announced this Thursday.

The Portuguese prime minister will arrive in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Friday, accompanied by the ministers of foreign affairs, environment and climate action, and the secretary of state for energy and climate change, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Before speaking at COP28 on Saturday, Antonio Costa will attend the summit on Friday and attend the opening of the leaders’ summit in the morning.

In the afternoon, the leader of the executive branch presides over the opening of the Portuguese pavilion, a debut that the Prime Minister’s Office says represents a strengthening of the country’s institutional presence at climate summits, thereby fulfilling commitments made last year. at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

For two days, António Costa had an agenda focused on financing climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as signing a Financial Commitment Agreement with the UN Green Climate Fund to support developing countries.

As early as Friday, an addendum to the debt reconversion memorandum between Portugal and Cape Verde is scheduled to be signed, which provides for the participation of 12 million euros in the climate fund – an amount that should be used to pay off Cape Verde’s debt to Portugal.

Afterwards, he will take part in an event on the same theme as Sao Tome and Principe, as part of a project along the same lines as in Cape Verde, and at the end of the day he will attend the Zayed Sustainability Award Ceremony.

On Saturday, after his speech at COP28, the Prime Minister will take part in a roundtable on climate change mitigation.

In the afternoon, at the Portuguese pavilion, he took part in the presentation of the Portuguese translation of the International Energy Agency’s report on Clean Energy Financing in Africa.

Representatives from nearly every country in the world are meeting in Dubai today for the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), where the first global assessment of eight years of climate action will take place.

Until December 12, the United Arab Emirates, a major oil producer, will host thousands of people from around the world at a so-called climate summit to discuss climate change and the fight against global warming.
