The government has suspended the liquidation of the company that runs SIRESP, the Ministry of the Interior (MAI) said on Thursday, indicating that the entity will receive a compensation award of around 26 million euros next year.
In a response sent to Lusa, MAI says the government intends to close the company that manages the Integrated System of Emergency and Security Networks in Portugal (SIRESP) by 2024, transferring responsibilities to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration. (SGMAI), but this process of institutional transformation was suspended due to early legislative elections.
“The recent announcement of early legislative elections on March 10, 2024 requires the suspension of this process of institutional change to allow the process to proceed later without interruption,” the MAI states.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that, given the current situation, the current SIRESP SA model will be maintained “until the full implementation of the model of the integrated structure of state management of security and emergency assistance networks.”
MAI states that in exchange for the provision of a public service, the government must provide the public company SIRESP SA with financial compensation, which “takes the form of indemnification designed to compensate that company for the direct and indirect costs arising from the performance of its respective public service obligations.”
The financial compensation for SIRESP SA will be “duly provided for in the SGMAI budget proposal for 2024” in the amount of EUR 26 million, MAI said.
SIRESP SA’s 2024 Public Service Obligation Compensation Compensation was approved by the government on Wednesday.
The mission of the public company SIRESP SA is to plan, manage, maintain and modernize the SIRESP network.
