Two Climáximo activists, 21 and 23 years old, damaged works of art this Sunday morning by throwing paint on an external staircase and graffiti on a wall at the EDP Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) in Lisbon. The alarm came at about 10:30.
In a statement, the collective explains that the action was aimed at “condemning the company’s central role in the Portuguese fossil fuel economy, its role in the cost of living and its false image as a green company.”
“Today we came to MAAT to condemn the EDP war. EDP is one of Portugal’s main importers of fossil fuels for energy production and is directly to blame for the death and destruction caused by the climate crisis. At the same time, she condemns us. To lead to disasters in the short and long term, the company is using the EDP Foundation, the owner of MAAT, to wash away its image,” reads a statement sent to the editorial office.
In a conversation with Lusa, representatives of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP said that the situation is still being analyzed and that the young women have only been identified until a complaint is filed to formalize the arrests.
Climáximo has been the protagonist of controversial information campaigns in recent months. From throwing paint on ministers, preventing traffic on roads and occupying colleges, the collective vows to act until demands are heard.
