The Minister of Education recognized the restoration of seniority thanks to the victory of Pedro Nuno Santos

On Tuesday, the Education Minister acknowledged the possibility of teachers reinstating frozen working hours, a demand he has always recognized as “fair” and now appears in a proposal by Pedro Nuno Santos.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the presentation of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results, Joao Costa acknowledged that teachers’ demands could be met if PS candidate Pedro Nuno Santos wins the legislative elections in March.

Teachers have been demanding the six years, six months and 23 days of frozen service be counted for several years now, staging numerous demonstrations and strikes, especially in the last school year.

On Tuesday, the minister recalled the proposal presented last week by PS leader candidate Pedro Nuno Santos, which “points to the continuation of the path of revenue return” that began in 2015 and which means “the restoration of the time service of the entire public administration”, in which teachers don’t stay away.

From the outset of the training dispute, João Costa acknowledged the demand was “fair” but said he did not have the financial capacity to comply with it.

Rejecting any liability from Prime Minister António Costa for not taking his length of service into account, João Costa says he will be “obviously happy” if “it is possible to go further, as Pedro Nuno Santos proposes.”

The proposal put forward last week by Pedro Nuno Santos advocates the “gradual restoration of the frozen service life” of all civil servants as a condition of “innovative and effective public administration.”

Pedro Nuno Santos advocates gradual counting.

The Minister of Education, a supporter of Pedro Nuno Santos, put forward this hypothesis in an interview with Rádio Renascença, emphasizing that he will continue the path of “returning income” begun in 2015.
