Israel claims Hamas drugged hostages before releasing them to make them appear ‘calm’ and ‘happy’

Ronit Endevelt, a spokesman for Israel’s Health Ministry, told the Knesset Health Committee that the hostages freed by Hamas were drugged before being handed over to the Red Cross, according to a report Tuesday. Times of Israel.

According to Endewelt, the goal was to create the impression that the hostages were calm, happy and optimistic after enduring mistreatment and psychological terror during their captivity in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas members were reported to have used clonazepam, a drug used in cases of anxiety, seizures, bipolar disorder and other illnesses.

The results of the blood tests of the abductees have not yet been made public, so Ronit’s statement can only be based on the testimony of those released.

Let us recall that Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the suspension of hostilities and the release of hostages captured by the Islamic group in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

The agreement was brokered by Qatar with the support of the United States, which played an important role. US President Joe Biden was in contact with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the weeks leading up to the signing of the agreement.
