PCP believes that “too much time has already been spent on choosing a new airport” and Alcochete’s solution must now be promoted.

The parliamentary leader of the PCP felt on Tuesday that the country had already spent “too much time” choosing the site of Lisbon’s new airport, arguing that we should move forward “as quickly as possible” with the Alcochete option.

Speaking to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, Paula Santos said that “more than 15 years have passed since a study was carried out that pointed to the decision to build a new Lisbon airport at the Alcochete shooting range.”

“The truth is that over the past few years there have been several excuses and subterfuges not to implement a solution that protects the interests of our country, (…) and all because they were subordinated to the interests of Vinci and not the country,” criticized.

The communist leader said it was necessary to move “as quickly as possible” towards Alcochete’s solution, stressing that it ensures “the development of the country, national interests, the development of TAP itself” and the “hub” (turntable). connecting flights).

The solution is fundamental, but it [fundamental também] progress, as well as the construction of a new airport at the Alcochete shooting range, the construction of a third crossing of the Tagus – a bridge between Barreiro and Lisbon – and the construction of a high-speed railway between Lisbon and Porto to the coast south of the Tagus, using the third crossing of the Tagus, as well as links with Spain,” he said.

According to Paula Santos, “this is a structuring and necessary investment.”

“The country has already spent too much time, it’s time to move forward and achieve results,” he emphasized.

In a note published shortly after Paula Santos’ announcement, PCP said the three investments would be worth “five billion” and could be completed by 2033.

This cost estimate does not include the construction of the airport at Alcochete, the funds for which ANA must undertake for PCP. The party also claims that the phased construction of this infrastructure could allow it to be operational before 2033.

In the note, the party also criticizes Vinci, emphasizing that “the decision has been made to withdraw” the airport from the center of Lisbon for more than 50 years, “but Vinci is not interested in ceasing operations in the city,” since then “guaranteeing greater profits with less investment.”

The PKP also adds that the findings of the Independent Technical Commission, which considers the Alcochete option the most viable, are “contrary to the interests” of Vinci, so “it is to be expected that parties in his employ will begin to undermine” his credibility.

“Something has, in fact, already been announced in numerous attempts to discredit both CTI and the Alcochete shooting range decision,” it says.

An independent technical committee has identified Alcochete as the most advantageous solution for a new airport among two viable options, according to a report released today.

According to a report published on the website of the Independent Technical Committee (ITC).

According to the preliminary report of the independent technical committee responsible for the strategic environmental assessment of increasing airport capacity in the Lisbon region, which examined nine options, the solutions of Humberto Delgado + Campo de Tiro de Alcochete are viable until only Alcochete remains with minimal with two lanes, and Humberto Delgado + Vendas Novas, until only Vendas Novas remains, also with at least two lanes.
