Chegi President Andre Ventura said this Wednesday that the next government “may not even be the ideal government for the country,” but if it is not led by the PS, “that is already good news.”
“We are not going to spend three months discussing whether we will have more MPs on one side or another, whether we have the opportunity to create an alternative here or there, whether there will be alliances A, B or C,” he said.
Speaking at the end of Chegi’s parliamentary days in Matosinhos (District of Porto), President Chegi said that “the PS cannot continue to govern the country.”
“And for us, the goal, first of all, is assumed: everyone except the left, everything except the left. And the government we want may not even be the ideal government for the country, but simply a government without Pedro Nuno Santos or Jose. Luis Carneiro is already great news for Portugal,” he stressed.
Andre Ventura said that “the right always had to correct the mistakes of the PS”, when they came to power they “always solved the swamp, the economic crisis, the wage gap, the bankruptcy of the socialists, if not the corruption”, and “since they never succeeded in doing what they wanted,” but he stressed that “the right cannot let the Portuguese down.”
“After eight years of socialist rule, we cannot have any warmth or hesitation, this is our moment to say now that we are not afraid and want to be this alternative,” he stressed, believing that on March 10 there will be a “revolution.” will take the place of the people.”
In a speech lasting about 20 minutes to the deputies elected to the Assembly of the Republic, as well as to the parliaments of the Azores and Madeira, Ventura stressed that Chega does not want to be a government if he wants to “keep everything the same.” .
At the end of parliamentary sessions on the next legislature, which took place about a month before parliament was dissolved, President Chegi chose justice, health and economic growth as the party’s priorities for the March legislative elections.
Regarding justice, “a fundamental pillar of action over the next few months”, he considered it to be in “chaos” and deplored the “attacks to which it has been subjected by the Government”.
On health care, the Chegi leader has set a goal, if he leads the government, to complete his term so that all Portuguese have a family doctor.
“António Costa promised but failed, we promised and we will deliver, there will be no Portuguese without a family doctor,” he said, pointing out that the party also wants to focus on “reducing bureaucracy, simplifying and going digital.”
Andre Ventura also accused the health minister of having “already resigned before the government stopped functioning” and criticized the “blind ideology of the left that wants to kill the private and the social.”
On the economic front, the leader of the far-right party noted that Chega is not “the party of wild profits or a completely deregulated economy,” arguing that “there must be market freedom, initiative, prosperity.”
Ventura said he wants to boost economic growth, the national minimum wage and lower taxes, and referred to the presentation of the election program for the party’s congress, which is scheduled for January 12, 13 and 14 in Viana do Castelo. .
President Chegi noted that the document will be “comprehensive, ambitious and aimed at governing Portugal.”
