PAN’s seven national and district political commissioners announced their resignations this Wednesday as they disagree with the party’s current political strategy in terms of whole-of-government alliances.
According to a statement they released, the resignations are also in protest against the “persecution of critics and the stifling of internal democracy” that they attribute to the leadership of Ines de Sousa Real.
These are members of the National Political Commission Alexandra Miguel, Fernando Rodrigues and Maria João Sacadura y Serrano, Setúbal District Commissioners Ana Mendes, Vitor Pinto and Ricardo Reis, and Lisbon District Commissioner Rui Prudencio.
Those who resigned criticized what they said was PAN’s intention to repeat in the Assembly of the Republic for the elections of March 10, 2024, the type of parliamentary agreement reached with Miguel Albuquerque’s PSD-Madeira.
They considered the Madeira support a “blatant deception of voters” who believed in the expectations of change led by the People-Animals-Nature (PAN) party.
“Miguel Albuquerque represents everything that politics and Madeira do not need: opacity, deceit, disrespect for environmental restrictions and social injustice,” they said.
They also stated that “the national leadership intends to repeat in the Assembly of the Republic, whoever it may be, the same shameful agreement concluded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.”
The resignations slammed Ines Sousa Real, saying PAN will never become the environmentalist party Portugal needs under her leadership.
“Sousa Real has turned PAN into a farce, a case of political prostitution, a national joke, a party bought by the systemic Migueis Albuquerquez that no longer bothers anyone or anything… and when it stops bothering, it is useless.” to politics and society. Society,” they said.
Lusa contacted the PAN leader, who sent confirmation to the National Commission’s desk on Thursday whether the announced layoffs were official or not.
Ines Souza Real noted that there have been cases in the past where people started by resigning from positions and then left PAN and joined other parties, “harming the party and the causes it represents.”
“My great commitment is to live up to the trust of more than 72% of the members of Congress who elected this leadership, to advance the cause of the party and take care of people, animals and nature, and restore the parliamentary group on March 10,” he said. added.
