The guarantee was given by the German Chancellor during a speech at the Social Democratic Party congress in Berlin. Despite acknowledging that this aid represents a “serious financial problem” for the country, Olaf Scholz promised to continue to support Ukraine financially and with weapons.
Germany is the second largest country to contribute to support for Ukraine, after the United States, which has already warned that American funds for Ukraine could soon run out.
“If other states fail, our contribution may have to be even greater,” he assured. The assurance came a day after US Republican senators blocked a bill that would have provided more than $60 billion in support for Ukraine. Russian attacks are multiplying and intensifying. Russia carried out almost 100 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory in 24 hours. Several eastern regions, including Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk, saw some of the heaviest fighting. The strikes came a day after Ukrainian authorities said they had intercepted cruise missiles for the first time in nearly 80 days.
