A pilot project carried out by the Institute for Employment and Skills (IEFP) shows that shortening the working week to four days leads to significant improvements in the lives of workers.
The results, which will be presented at the conference on Tuesday, show that the four-day week reduced fatigue levels by up to 19%. The experience, which began in June, also shows that the frequency of negative mental health symptoms has dropped significantly.
More than 1,000 workers from 41 companies were involved in the project. 95% of companies rated the test positively; According to the IEFP, 58.5% provided one day off per week, while 41.5% opted for two nine-day weeks.
The change to weekly working hours has led to a sharp drop (from 46% to 8%) in the proportion of workers who say it is “difficult or very difficult” to balance work and family.
