The leader of the PSD wants another party in the government “for reasons of democratic hygiene”

PSD President Luis Montenegro said Tuesday evening that the country needs to change the party in government “for the sake of democratic hygiene,” given that the Socialists consider themselves “the owners of all rulers.” this “.

“We need a new government because we need a better future, because the Socialist Party has failed in everything that is important in the social and economic life of the country, and we also need it for reasons of democratic hygiene,” he said.

The Social Democratic leader spoke after dinner with his supporters at a hotel in Beja, at the end of the second day of the Sentir Portugal initiative in the Alentejo region and after passing through the municipalities of Moura, Serpa, Barrancos, Almodóvar, Mértola and Serpa.

Stressing that Portugal has a “very socialist culture” in which the state and the PS “are one and the same,” Luís Montenegro emphasized that “the Socialist Party has taken over the state and really thinks it owns it all.” .

“These elections must be used to nip evil in the bud,” he stressed, noting that the need to change the ruling party is “as important as the victory of one or the other in the PS,” since “they are the seeds.” from the same bag.”

In the presence of Beja district president Gonçalo Valente and the party’s only elected MP in Alentejo, Sonia Ramos, Montenegro insisted that “this culture of state appropriation must end.”

“These gentlemen really believe that they have absolute power, and it is necessary to tell the Portuguese that the state needs to breathe, and the people and society need to breathe,” he emphasized.

According to the Social Democratic President, if the PS remains in government and with the largest number of mayors, society will “feed this absolute power” and “contribute to confusion between the Socialist Party and the state.”

In a nearly 30-minute speech, the Orange leader deplored the “depressing” tone in which Antonio Costa spoke about Cavaco Silva during a television interview on Monday.

Costa seemed to “want to underestimate the fact that in the PSD we are very proud of his legacy as Prime Minister,” he said, noting that “a government with an absolute majority falling after 15 months has never happened under the government of Professor Cavaco Silva “

“One of the disappointments that Dr. António Costa certainly feels is that in terms of project, capacity for achievement, progress and development, Professor Cavaco Silva puts António Costa as Prime Minister not 10, but 100 k zero,” he continued. .

The PSD leader also said he was shocked to see the “daily ceremonies” attended by members of the current socialist executive now in control, “as if the government had begun” functions.

Regarding Baixo Alentejo, Montenegro recalled that the PS has two deputies in the region and presides over 10 municipal councils, concluding that even with a government of the same party and an absolute majority, “they cannot achieve anything for the district.”

“This is the height of political incompetence,” he exclaimed.

Among other proposals, the Socialist president said he wants to end the trend of tens of thousands of young people seeking job opportunities outside Portugal and introduce a guaranteed minimum income for retirees.

“There is no future for a country of high taxes and minimal government services,” he added.

The Sentir Portugal initiative in the Beja region ends on Wednesday with visits to the municipalities of Odemira and Ourique.
