Rui Tavares returns to the top of the Livre por Lisbon list for the March legislative elections

Livre again elected in the primaries the deputy and founder of the party, Rui Tavares, as the head of the list of the Lisbon circle in the legislative elections in March, and the municipal deputy of the capital, Isabel Mendes Lopez, as number two.

According to information about the final results of the primaries sent to Livre members and supporters, to which Lusa had access, the party’s only MP, former MEP and historian Rui Tavares, again topped the list for the Lisbon constituency, as in the 2022 snap legislative elections, at which he was elected with 5334.94 points in the primary process.

In second place on Lisbon’s list was Isabel Méndez López, a civil engineer and municipal deputy of the capital since 2021. She served in the party leadership from 2015 to 2022 and scored 2,855.32 points.

As in the 2022 legislative elections, leader Jorge Pinto was again the top vote-getter and topped the list in the Porto district with 3,289.46 points. Jorge Pinto was born in Amarante, lives in Brussels and has a degree in environmental engineering.

Setúbal’s list is once again topped by leader Paulo Muacho, a lawyer, with 3,062.81 points, while in Braga party co-president Teresa Mota will be number one with 2,950.4 points.

In the primaries in Livre, 121 candidates were nominated for the lists of deputies that the party will present in the March legislative elections, and they have already been selected.

The party is scheduled to hold a congress in January, the date of which is still unknown, to finalize the program that will be presented in the elections.

The Livre uses a basic method to select its representatives for externally elected positions, for which any citizen can register to run or vote, provided that he signs the constitution of that party.

Portugal will hold early legislative elections on March 10, 2024, called by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, following the resignation of Prime Minister António Costa.
