This Thursday, the PSD requested an urgent parliamentary hearing from the Minister of Health to clarify the news that Portuguese residents abroad will now have to pay for health services provided by the SNS.
On Wednesday, the government assured that Portuguese residents abroad will still have “full access” to the National Health Service (SNS), saying they will not have to pay for treatment.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health explained that changes to the National User Register (RNU) are aimed at ensuring “monitoring by the family health team, namely access to a family doctor for those who need it most.”
The PSD request, which was submitted late Wednesday and published this Thursday, highlights that until now emigrants have “paid reasonable fees under the same conditions as the rest of the country’s population”, expressing concern that the Portuguese are not – residents will no longer be able to have a family doctor and will begin to bear the cost of treatment on the National Health System.
“The PSD believes that this discrimination against our emigrants in access to social networks will have very negative consequences for them, raising, moreover, serious doubts from the point of view of respect for the principle of equality between residents and non-residents of Portugal in the country. “, he said, saying the measure would be “unfair, unfair and discriminatory” and should not be carried out by the governing government.
Considering that “the country has the right to know how many people it expects the Socialist Party government to “throw out” from social networks” and “what financial consequences” it expects to have, the PSD is demanding an urgent hearing of Minister Manuel Pizarro before the Parliamentary Health Commission.
The Chega Party has already made a similar request this Thursday, given that “although the Department of Health has already publicly guaranteed that expats will still have full access to the National Health Service and will not have to pay for medical services.” caution, further clarification is needed to fully understand the implications of the proposed changes.”
