Carla Castro refused to join the IL list in Lisbon for the March elections

MP and former IL leadership candidate Carla Castro said this Friday that she refused an invitation to join the party list in the early legislative elections in March between fifth and seventh place in the Lisbon constituency.

“After demonstrating my willingness to join the list of IL deputies for the next legislative elections of the Lisbon District, which is, of course, subject to normal political working conditions, I was invited by Vice President Ricardo Pais de Oliveira, to whom I thank. , take seventh place, perhaps fifth or sixth,” the deputy wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The MP, who lost in the internal elections to the incumbent IL President Rui Rocha, decided “not to accept the invitation”, a decision that she has already communicated to the National Council, which will approve the candidates on Saturday in Leiria. for deputies in early legislative elections from March 10.

In a text published on social networks, the liberal MP noted that “the cycle has closed” and in the near future she will rethink her role in active political life.

“I believe in politics based on solid principles, with defined goals, with a public service perspective and committed to building a more liberal Portugal,” said Carla Castro, for whom “political messages must be deep and be more than slogans or “soundbites” ´”.

Political discourse in Portugal “has become more acute, and it is necessary within and outside parties and in moderate spaces to reach consensus and open bridges,” the MP also warned, defending “a culture of cooperation at the expense of a culture of competition.”

“I am and will remain a liberal, a reformist and a practitioner of constructive disorder. I continue to be an economist, a manager and myself,” he emphasized.

The IL National Council will approve nominations for next year’s early legislative elections on Saturday at a meeting that will also set a new date for a non-elective convention that has been postponed due to the political crisis.

The meeting of liberal councilors is scheduled to take place at a hotel in Leiria and will begin with an opening speech by party chairman Rui Rocha, which will be open to the media.
