The leader of the PSD parliament said this Thursday that there are “several issues that need to be clarified” after he heard from the TAP president and added that he would like to hear from the current and former finance and infrastructure ministers, as well as Alexandra Reis.
At the end of the PSD parliamentary group meeting, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento believes that after Christine Urmier-Widener’s Wednesday hearing in Parliament, several issues remain unclear, including the bonus she will receive and the compensation awarded to former administrators such as Alexandra Reis, who later he was finance minister for about a month.
“The CEO of TAP said something that puzzles us: that Alexandra Reis left because she did not agree with the airline’s restructuring process. I remember that Alexandra Reis was involved in this plan, but there was no participation of the current CEO, who came later. The rationale cannot be only in this disagreement,” he said.
Asked about the personalities the SDP would like to hear in the parliamentary commission of inquiry proposed by TAP’s political management BE that guaranteed approval, the social democratic parliamentary leader said the party would look into it in the coming weeks, but some names had already been mentioned.
“There are several people who are important to listen to: the TAP team, current and previous, including, obviously, engineer Alexandra Reis, former finance minister and current, former and current minister of infrastructure,” he gave an example. .
Asked about TVI/CNN Portugal news featuring Fernando Medina, the PSD parliamentary leader declined to comment directly, saying “justice must take its course”, echoing the political criticism of the minister.
“We have always said that Dr. Fernando Medina cannot remain finance minister, but this has nothing to do with yesterday’s news. [quarta-feira], but with what happened in the case of the engineer Alexandra Reis. Politically, he is very weak in the most important management portfolio,” defended Miranda Sarmento.
“We do not process intentions towards anyone. Our criticism is political,” he stressed.
On Wednesday evening, TVI/CNN Portugal reported that on Tuesday the Judicial Police raided the Lisbon City Council for “suspicions of corruption, economic involvement in business and falsification” in an appointment to “provide services that was signed in 2015” by the then municipality president Fernando Medina, current finance minister, suspects PS funding.
In a statement Thursday, PS “categorically” denied receiving financial or material support from companies, noting that donations raised by the party have been registered, identified and submitted to the Office of Accounts and Political Finance.
“PS clarifies that it did not receive financial or material support from companies. By law, only donations are accepted from persons who are properly identified,” the PS said in a statement.
The PS then refers to the fact that “donations made are recorded and identified in the party’s official accounts submitted to the Office of Accounts and Political Finance.”
“The PS categorically denies allegations of funding outside of a strict legal framework,” he adds.
