António Costa receives this Sunday afternoon at the PS headquarters in Largo do Rato, Lisbon, his successor as Secretary General, Pedro Nuno Santos. The moment will serve as a testament to the new Socialist leader as he prepares the party to vote in early legislative elections on March 10.
As prime minister, Costa yesterday, for family reasons, canceled his Christmas visit to the Portuguese military on a mission in Mozambique – an initiative planned for tomorrow that included a meeting with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi. During a stopover in Luanda, before arriving in Mozambique, he will meet Angolan President João Lourenço at the Presidential Palace.
The prime minister’s trip to Mozambique and a visit to Luanda “have been canceled due to personal family reasons”, said a note issued yesterday by Antonio Costa’s office.
According to the same note, “the military component associated with the visit of the National Forces stationed in Mozambique will be provided by the Minister of National Defense [Helena Carreiras]”.
