A young Englishman found in France six years after disappearing in Spain has returned to the UK and been reunited with his grandmother, it was reported this Sunday Sky News.
Alex Batty disappeared at the age of 11 while on holiday with his mother and grandfather in southern Spain. Since then, the family members have not been seen again. In 2018, the young man’s grandmother told BBC who believed that his mother and grandfather took him to a spiritual community in Morocco.
On Wednesday, after a medical student found him in a mountainous area, the minor told authorities he had been in France for two years. Alex, now 17, was healthy and insisted he had not suffered any abuse.
According to the police in Manchester, UK, the young man met his grandmother and legal guardian this Sunday at the airport in Toulouse, France. “This moment is undoubtedly huge for him and his loved ones. We’re glad you were able to see each other again after all this time,” said Deputy Chief Matt Boyle.
British authorities traveled to France and brought the child home, but have not yet questioned him to determine the whereabouts of his mother and grandfather.
