South Korea’s military has confirmed that the missile fired by neighboring North Korea on Monday is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the fifth fired by Pyongyang this year.
“Our armed forces have detected what is believed to be a long-range ballistic missile launched from the Pyongyang area into the East Sea. [nome dado ao mar do Japão nas duas Coreias] at about 08:24″ (23:24 on Sunday in Lisbon), South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense confirmed the launch time and added that the missile landed at about 09:37 (00:37 Lisbon time) outside the country’s special economic zone, 250 kilometers west of Okushiri Island, near Hokkaido (north). This was reported by the Japanese state broadcaster NHK.
