The 41-year-old man was detained by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of crimes related to rape and domestic violence that have occurred since the summer of this year in the metropolitan area of Porto.
According to the SP, the accused and the victim met on social media and since they lived close to each other, they decided to start a relationship. During the relationship, the man began to exhibit obsessive and jealous behavior, “with episodes of emotional out of control, prone to verbal and physical violence.”
Because she was afraid of her boyfriend, the victim was unable to leave the relationship and experienced various types of physical and psychological abuse.
“Due to the escalation of violence by the aggressor, the victim eventually reported the attack to close family members and sought help at the hospital, bringing the situation to the attention of the authorities,” the report said.
The detainee, who had no criminal record, was present at the first judicial interrogation; coercive measures were applied to him, prohibiting contact and approaching the victim, who was under electronic surveillance.
